NEET- All you need to know about Neet exam.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a
national level medical entrance examination in India. It was introduced in 2013
by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as an attempt to unify all
the medical entrance examinations across the country. NEET replaced AIPMT (All
India Pre Medical Test) and other state-level examinations.
The languages in which the NEET (UG) would be conducted are : English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Purpose and Conduct:
- NEET (UG) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
- It serves as a common and uniform entrance test for admission to undergraduate medical education in all medical institutions across India.
- NEET (UG) is also applicable for admission to undergraduate courses in Indian System of Medicine (BAMS, BUMS, and BSMS) and Homeopathy (BHMS).
Exam Pattern:
- Total Questions: 180
multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
- Subjects: Physics,
Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology (45 questions each).
- Marking Scheme: Correct
answers earn 4 marks, while incorrect responses result in
a negative marking of 1 mark.
- Duration: 3 hours
20 minutes (200 minutes).
- Maximum Marks: 720.
The age limit for appearing in the NEET exam is as follows:
- Minimum
Age: Candidates must have completed 17 years of age as of
December 31st of the year of admission
- Maximum
Age: There is no upper age limit for the NEET exam
- Age Relaxation: Reserved category candidates, including SC/ST/OBC-NCL, are eligible for a relaxation of up to 5 years, allowing them to apply up to the age of 30
Eligibility criteria
The eligibility criteria for appearing in NEET is that the candidate must have completed Class 12th or equivalent from a recognised board. Candidates who are appearing in Class 12th or equivalent are also eligible to appear for the test.
- Minimum Marks: For General Category candidates, a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is required. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the minimum aggregate is 40%
- Attempts: There is no limit on the maximum number of attempts for the NEET exam
Subject-wise Weightage
Biology typically has the highest number of questions in the NEET exam, with topics like Genetics and Evolution, Human Physiology, and Ecology being crucial.
